Bling Baby Bling
January 18, 2013 in organizing
So, I got a cold and it wiped me out. So, I will be playing catch up.
I have been on an organizing rampage! I don’t know if Eric is happy about it or frightened. When I come up with a brilliant idea- it almost always involves some handy work from my handy man. So you see, when I said, in my very sweet voice while batting my eyes in the most un-sexy way (I just can’t make that work), “Babe, I have this idea….” he knew he was involved.
I have a lot of jewelry, which is weird because I usually don’t put anything on other than sweats, or when I am getting fancy, yoga pants, so the fact that I have so much jewelry doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But you see, what a lot of you don’t know is, I used to be a Premier Jewelry lady- yep- I would go into your home, show how to get your sexy back with jewelry, and then be dubbed, your “jewelry lady”. Obviously, I needed a ton of jewelry to show, hence the massive amount of jewels I have accumulated.
I have always kept it in the jewelry case because, duh, that made sense so I wouldn’t have to repack it every time, but now that I have retired, I wanted the jewels a bit more accessible (that’s what she said)
Enter Pinterest. It’s not a new concept, but it’s a concept that I love and had the means to do. I bought a silver bar from Ikea (i think it was like $4) and then I bought some shower curtain hangers from Target. I love these ones! I love that there are two hooks on each- we actually use these for our shower curtains as well.
I put one up and decided that it was a bit too congested, so my dear sweet friend, Ami, made the mistake of asking, “I’m going to Ikea, do you need anything?”. Of course, no one expects someone to say yes, but that’s me…unpredictable:) So yeah, I asked my friend to get me another bar, which she so graciously did.
So now I have two- I separated them into two categories, long and short, watch out, I’m getting technical here. I also left some room on the side to hang my cuff watches and some cuff bracelets. I don’t wear the bracelets as much as I should- the wrist is the skinniest part of your body, so you should accentuate it, but I don’t, not sure why. I wanted something that would remind me of my skinny parts but had nothing and didn’t want to spend any money. I asked Eric what he thought about using a toilet paper holder as a make shift bracelet holder and he was all, “Dude-that is the best idea I have ever heard- you are the smartest woman alive and I love when you wear sweat pants!” Okay, not really, he actually said, ” I dunno, I guess”. But then he remembered that he had a spare one (totally normal, right?) in the garage and it was chrome! Winning!
I organized the long ones by “color”. I started with colored beads, then silver, then black rope and hematite, then gold and then brassy…
The next project that I have not yet tackled (and when I say me, we all know I mean Eric) is to take an old frame that I bought at Goodwill, paint it and either use chicken wire or burlap in it to make an earring holder. Right now, I use this cute little egg holder to put my earrings in so I don’t lose them.I have a ton more, but they are in the closet, waiting for their moment in the egg tray.
There ya have it- my fancy jewelry wall. Now, whenever I am going out on the town I can just get blinged out in a jiffy. Not gonna lie- sometimes in my yoga pants, I rock my 90 inch pearls….

You seriously need to come to my house. I NEED you!
