How to: Save for Christmas
January 28, 2013 in Christmas, how to, money
I’m sure you are thinking I’ve lost my mind. “Why does she keep talking about Christmas, for cryin’ out loud?”, I’m sure you are all thinking. Stay with me, I promise I have a point. Every year, not matter how prepared I feel like we are, we are always spending a ton of money that we don’t have right near Christmas. We don’t have credit cards, so what we spend, we spend. It’s like Dave Ramsey says, “Christmas is not a surprise emergency-it happens every December”. I saw this super awesome chart on Facebook and totally thought this would be something we could do. Basically, the 411 is….for each week-you put in that many dollars. For instance, the first week- $1, second week, you put in $2 and so on. We chose to put money in every Friday…I put the dollar amount in my planner so I don’t forget. I love it! We are using the money for our Christmas budget, so we won’t save all the way through the year, but we will have a good amount of money saved up and will still be able to eat! I know we could put it in the bank to accrue interest, but we decided a mason jar would be just dandy.
I got this off of Pinterest….no clue who made it, if you did…. thanks, it’s awesome! And you can’t click on it to enlarge it- I just copied it so you would get a general idea:)
There ya have- our plan for Christmas 2013! May not be for everyone, but we are diggin it! I am pretty excited about it. I know when we get into the year, it’s going to be costly, but we will budget for it and then we won’t freak out when we are shopping for Christmas!
Keep the conversation going over on Facebook! See ya there!

I think that will be my goal this year as well…. It would be awesome to have everything purchased and wrapped by December 1st…. You have to help me keep to this, lol!
