Busy Bee

February 4, 2013 in ramblings, random

Wow! I haven’t had a busy week like I had last week, in a long time. Every day we seemed to have multiple things going on and I was not doing the best job prioritizing. The ironic thing is, we started a class at church last week that is all about balancing life’s priorities and how to do it. I just thought it was funny, that we were trying to figure out whether or not we had time for it! We sort of figured that if we  had to discuss whether or not we had time to figure out priorities, that a big huge siren was going off blaring that our priorities are all out of whack. The first class was quite insightful and I am excited to see what the next nine weeks teaches us.

Thursday, Delaney had a field trip to the pet store. We are so fortunate that her teachers allow us to bring our other kids with us on the field trip. Brody was equally excited. I’m lucky that one of Delaney’s classmates’ mom, is a friend from high school. We didn’t hang out in high school, but knew of each other, so it’s fun to be at this place together. We threw Brody’s car seat in her van, Delaney sat in Erin’s older son’s seat and along with her younger two, we headed to the pet store. It was a good time. The kids enjoyed looking at all the animals and Brody informed me that he really, really, wants a turtle and a fish tank. The staff at Petco were super. They were very patient and calm with all the craziness that was happening. After the pet store, we headed to a nearby park for a picnic. It was simply lovely. No craziness, no drama, the kids all played amazingly together and the weather was perfect.

Love these two:

The craziest day of all was Friday. The kids had their first dentist appointment. I realize that I was supposed to take them long before, but it was just never something I made a priority (see messed up priorites…story of my life lately). I must admit, I was also very nervous about it. Not because I thought their teeth were bad or that something was wrong, I just can’t stand when they are nervous or scared. It is so strange how much this affects me. I did tell them that they were going and we talked about what the dentist would do and we even read a book. They were totally fine, until Thursday night when Delaney had a full on melt down. It was so sad. We both reassured her over and over again and Brody didn’t really seem to react. Thanks goodness their appointment was at 9:00…. right away it was over. I had my mom meet me there because I didn’t want one kid to be alone. Brody decided on the way there, that he was just not going in. Period, end of story. In fact, when we arrived at Every Kid’s Dentist, he unbuckled and barricaded himself under the seat in the back. It was seriously like a hostage situation. My mom had to be the hostage negotiator while I took Delaney in the get registered. The moment we walked in, the front desk woman was unbelievable friendly. She walked me through what was going to happen and then told Delaney she could go play. At this time, super Nana had convinced Brody to come in and he immediately found the dinosaurs. It was a super cute office. Very bright, with video games, a TV, and toys all over! Dr. McLin came out and introduced himself to me and the kids. He spent a very long time going over the procedures and getting to know us. When it was time to go back, Brody went first and we decided I would hang out with him while my mom stuck with Delaney. The exam room was great! Bright green with an awesome mural on the wall and a TV on the ceiling. Brody was really nervous, I could tell because he does this thing with his fingers and he was not stopping! The dentist showed Brody all the tools he was using and let him hold them. It was great! Brody was a rock star. Delaney had x-rays taken and the only problem with her, was keeping her quiet so they could do an exam. It went terrific! If you are local, I highly recommend Every Kid’s Dentist.

That afternoon, Kaylie had asked to take Delaney roller skating at the place she works. Once, again, I am a nervous nellie. Not because of how Kaylie drives, but other people. I don’t like when anyone drives the kids, except me (control issue?). SHe picked her up at 2:30, took her to Taco Bell and then they went skating. I thought about her the whole time. Kaylie knows me well enough now and knows how I worry. She sent me a picture of little miss thing and told me that she barely needed help. It’s awesome that she wants to spend with her.

She does not look like my little 5 year old.

After skating, we went to Eric’s mom’s house for dinner. Kevin (Eric’s brother) is an amazing chef and decided to cook dinner for us! Yummy stuffed shells, veggies and bread made for an awesome night.

In addition to my regular craziness…I have decided to renew my teaching certificate-kind of last-minute. I am scrambling to get all the professional development hours needed to re-certify. Luckily, my sis-in-law told me about a class at our local zoo and I registered just in time. The class was Thursday night from 5-8 and then again Saturday from 8-4. I was kind of dreading it, but on Thursday night, if you follow me on Facebook, you saw that  they brought out an 8 month old Fennec Fox for us to pet, I was overjoyed.  I was excited to hear that on Saturday we would be spending a lot of time in the zoo. Saturday we spent the day with armadillos, petting a rhino, watching a training session with a tiger, a training session with otters, watched an elephant picked the Ravens to win the Super Bowl and got to pet a hedgehog. Such a fun day.

As you can see, this past week was packed with crazy fun activities, in addition to the normal driving to and from school, making breakfast, lunch and dinner, washing clothes, cleaning and disinfecting the house. I am so happy that this week there is nothing too crazy happening. I can chill a bit. What did you do this past week? Did you watch the Super Bowl?
